INDUSTRY RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS...

All of the qualifications in the ICT02 Telecommunications Training Package such as those described under Qualifications offered, are recognised nationally by all organisations and companies operating in the telecommunications industry in Australia. This includes the Carriers and the Government Regulator - the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

The cabling 'licensing' regime is maintained by the ACMA through its five Registrars.

When you meet the requirements for the Open or Restricted (Cabling) Registration you apply for the registration to one of the five ACMA appointed Registrars with the Certificate issued to you by the RTO (Registered Training Organisation, such as Ramsden Telecommunications Training) who trained and assessed you.

QUALIFICATIONS AVAILABLE: For a full list of available qualifications please visit the 'How to get Qualified' page.

How do I get these Qualifications?

Ramsden Telecommunications Training has most of these qualifications on its scope of registration and depending on economic practicalities such as number of trainees at particular locations, can offer training and assessment in these qualifications. In some cases, trainees can be exempted from certain competencies if they can provide the required evidence or prior experience - this process called recognition of prior training/work experience or RPL is also offered by Ramsden Telecommunications Training to help shorten the training period for those with this prior experience.

The required training can be obtained off the job or partially off the job and partially on the job. Each case must be examined on its merits.

A traineeship with an employer is a sound way to gain these qualifications as it involves off the job training coupled with on the job work experience. In this case generally the Government helps pay for the training and provides a financial incentive to the employer to take on trainees.

However, a student working in the industry can gain the qualification by paying for it himself/herself and studying out of working hours (evenings/weekends) or take time off from work to attend day off the job training. Often the employer will support this process as it is to the employing companies advantage to raise the qualifications of its employees. There may be government subsidies available to the employer to encourage this process. There are generally eligibility criteria to be met for this subsidy.
