Optical Fibre Specialist Courses...

The following courses provide the knowledge and skills to work in a carrier's optical fibre's transmission and access networks. These courses are relevant to the Australian Government's National Broadband Infrastructure Project which includes FTTN and FTTP.

  • Includes ribbon splicing as required for the NBN Rollout

Covers:
  • Telstra Accredited
  • OF transmission principles
  • Loss mechanisms, connector care
  • Power budgets, acceptance testing and commissioning standards
  • Introduction to OTDR's
  • Optimum use of OTDR for loss measurement and fault location and LSPM for loss measurements.

  Optical Fibre for Cabling Technicians - RTT56
  • The optical wave guide - fundamentals of light transmission in glass fibre.
  • OF cabling design to AS/NZS 3080:2003 including optimum use of SMOF & MMOF and its enhanced OM3 grade.
  • Terminating loose tube and tight buffered cable.
  • Direct termination of SC & ST connectors on enhanced OM3 MMOF.
  • Role of SFF connectors (MTRJ and LC).
  • Fusion splicing using new MINI-SPLICER.
  • Power budgeting.
  • OTDR and light power testing to AS/NZS 3080:2003.
  • Delivers national competency std ICTCBL3010A (Install and terminate optical fibre cable) for adding to your Open Registration card.
  • This course forms part of the Certificate III in Telecommunications course

ACMA Open Registration required to legally practise this cabling. However you can still attend the course without the Registration or License in order to gain knowledge and skills.
